Mothers Day & Baby Dedication

Teaching Notes

This day marked a beautiful first for our campus—our first baby dedication, fittingly held on Mother’s Day. As we gathered, it wasn’t just to honor moms, but to witness parents publicly committing their children to the Lord, inviting His grace, guidance, and presence into their parenting journey. This dedication isn’t salvation—it’s a declaration. A promise made by parents before the church and before God to raise their children in a Christ-centered home, one marked by peace, biblical instruction, and the lordship of Jesus.

In Luke’s gospel, Jesus welcomed children with open arms, telling His disciples not to hinder them, because the kingdom belongs to such as these. That same heart is alive in our baby dedications. Parents are promising to lead their children to Jesus—not just with their words, but with their example, their home life, and their priorities. And as a church, we don’t just stand by as spectators—we stand with them as partners, encouragers, and spiritual family, ready to pray and walk alongside them.

As we celebrated these families, we also paused to reflect on the role of motherhood—a calling rich with both beauty and burden. Scripture reveals how deeply God values the heart of a mother, because so many of the traits woven into a mother’s life reflect the very nature of God Himself. Her faith, like Timothy’s mother and grandmother, is often the first spiritual anchor in a child’s life. Her prayers, whispered in the night or during a morning commute, become holy intercession. Her devotion, strength, and sacrificial love echo the steadfastness of Christ Himself.

Motherhood isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s 24/7. It’s holding the hearts of children forever, long after they’ve grown. It’s praying through tears, enduring sleepless nights, believing in your children when they’ve lost their way, and loving even when it’s costly. And yet, God has uniquely designed women to do it—not in their own strength, but by His grace. He’s given moms the grit to keep going when they want to give up, and the comfort that brings peace in the chaos.

We reflect on five core traits of a mother’s heart: faith, resolve, devotion, nurture, and sacrificial love. Each one reveals something beautiful about who God is. Her unwavering faith models trust in Jesus. Her strength reflects endurance through trials. Her devotion reminds us of God’s commitment. Her nurture shows us God’s tenderness and care. And her sacrificial love? It points directly to the cross.

This kind of love isn’t something you earn—it’s freely given. It reminds us of how Jesus loves us: sacrificially, relentlessly, unconditionally. As a mother lays down her own wants and needs for the good of her children, we see a picture of how Christ lays down His life for us. His love isn’t based on what we deserve—it’s based on who He is.

Today, we not only bless and pray over these families dedicating their children, but we also pause to pray over every mom—whether biological, adoptive, step, spiritual, or expectant. We thank God for their faith, their labor, their love, and their legacy. And as a church, we say: you are seen, you are valued, and we are with you.
